About us

UPCOMING EVENTS / NEWS...

What is Korfball?

Korfball is a ball sport played by mixed teams (four men and four women per team). If you imagine crossing basketball and netball you've got a fair idea of what korfball looks like, but it's quite distinct from both. It's fast moving, skilful, non-contact and very much dependent on teamwork. Click here for a short introduction from the English Korfball Association, or here for a neat one- page summary courtesy of our friends at Korfball New Zealand. Put simply, Korfball is great.

Castle Korfball Club

Castle Korfball Club was founded in 1996, and is based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, in sunny Staffordshire.
We train on Wednesday evenings at Keele University Leisure Centre, and we presently have two teams that play weekend games in local and regional korfball leagues (Castle 1 and Castle 2). Most of our home games are played at Kidsgrove Leisure Centre.
We currently have around 30 members, and are always looking for new recruits, so if you're interested, read on.  A short CLUB INFORMATION LEAFLET is also available as word document.

Fancy having a go?

New members and beginners are always welcome. Only a handful of our players had played korfball before joining Castle, so a lot of the coaching is pitched with new players in mind. You'll be surprised how quickly you learn! Your first few training sessions are completely free of charge, and then full membership is available at very reasonable prices. Please contact Ruth on 07709 337693, or email anyone on our contacts page for more information. Alternatively, if you don't fancy training just yet, you'd be very welcome to come and watch one of our games to get a better idea of what korfball is all about. Get in touch with us and we'll meet up with you beforehand to explain the rules. We're also an extremely sociable club: we keep the local pubs in business after training, and arrange many other events (see UPCOMING EVENTS, opposite).

Great news for C2/C3: Crewe & Nantwich gets off to a great start...

Thanks largely to the efforts of numerous Castle players, Crewe and Nantwich Korfball Club - CaN Korf - looks set to fly and provide C2 and C3 with some serious opposition next season. CaN Korf training sessions are on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30-8:30pm, and new players are welcome at any time. Keep your fingers crossed, and let us know if you can help the new club out in any way.

Old news, but still good news...

Great news for all Castle players! The English Korfball Association website now hosts both CEKL (Castle1) and SaCKL (Castle 2) statistics. It includes league tables, fixture lists, top scorers, and all sorts of other info, just a click or two away from these links.

And finally, a big thank you to our sponsors...
